Tips from Your Neighborhood Plumbing Professional

Do You Have an Underground Water Leak?

Have you all of a sudden seen a jump in your water bill or pooling water in your yard in Kent, Renton or Auburn? Then your Neighborhood Plumbing Professional at Fox Plumbing & Heating has your answer. If you’ve noticed these problems then it could mean that you have an underground water leak. We have some quick and easy ways to check and see if that’s the case.

Extensa_Faucet_160x180You need to begin by ensuring that all of your faucets and fixtures are turned off. Once this is done then locate your water meter and see if it’s still running. If the meter is still running then you’ll need to locate and shut-off your water main valve. Now that this is done, go back to the water meter and see if it’s still running. If yes, then you know that you likely have a water leak either underground or in your home. If you have an underground leak then there are several things that you need to consider, the type of soil you have and if your water pipes are underneath concrete or grass lawn? If you have pooling water on your lawn then definitely check-out our blog on ‘Save Your Landscape with Trench Less Technology Repair!’ But a reputable plumber, like those at Fox Plumbing & Heating can help you find the answers to your concerns and provide a number of solutions.

Gerber_UltraFlush-300x263If the meter stopped running when you turned off the water main then the leak is under or in the house, most likely; the toilet is running or there is a broken pipe. Listening for a leak is known as acoustic detection, and that simply means walking along your walls or outside to see if you can hear a pressurized hissing. Once the leak has been located it will need to either be patched or replaced, depending on the damage. To do this correctly, consider finding a reputable plumber to help. Also, you can dye test your toilets by putting food coloring in your toilet’s tank and wait a ½ hour or so to 45 minutes. If, when you return you notice that the dye is in the toilet bowl then you have an issue with a running toilet. This is primarily due to either a bad flush valve, worn-out flapper or possibly a faulty fill valve.

It doesn’t matter if you have an underground or interior leak it’s important to get these issues addressed as soon as possible. Your Neighborhood Plumbing Professional at Fox Plumbing & Heating is here to help you with any problems or possible leak issues here in the Renton, Kent, Auburn or the King County area.

  1. Thank you for the great post. When you have a leak, which is obviously a plumbing problem it is great to have a professional you can turn too. I recommend Reidhead Plumbing for people who reside in the Sacramento area.
  2. Nice to find your post. I can guesses here are some annoying problem that sometimes we can't reach to a perfect plumbing service company or professional. That is because maximum of us don't have idea or more experience when we go to solve problem. But I think all the company should be more conscious and trustful about their service.
